About What Is The Nutritional Value Of

A good question can change a meal. It can turn a glance at a food label into a small but steady choice toward better health. On this site we answer one simple question, again and again: what nutrients are in that food, and what do they mean for the people who eat it.

When I started this project I kept returning to a memory. I was in a small kitchen, the sound of a knife on a wooden board, the bright snap of a fresh apple, the warm steam from a pot of lentils. Those textures and smells are tied to how we feel after a meal. Food is data, and it is also comfort, habit, culture, celebration, and memory. This site treats both sides with care.

Why this site exists

People search for quick facts about food and find conflicting claims, outdated numbers, or pages that skim the surface. We aim to change that by providing clear, accurate nutrient information presented with context. Our goal is not to police eating, to sell a single approach, or to promise miracle changes. Our goal is to make reliable nutrition information easy to find and simple to use.

How we work

Every article follows a consistent format so you can find the facts you need quickly. Typical sections include:

  • What the food is and how it is commonly prepared
  • Calories and macronutrients per common serving sizes
  • Key vitamins and minerals
  • Practical notes and common concerns (allergies, sodium, added sugars)
  • How the food fits into everyday eating patterns
  • Short, evidence-based takeaways you can act on

We draw numbers from established food composition databases and summarize findings from peer reviewed research when a nutritional claim requires context. When studies conflict we explain the uncertainty instead of overstating confidence. Every page lists the data sources and the date the entry was last checked.

Who writes the content

I’m Jotham. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences from Rutgers University and I am a certified nutritionist. For nearly twenty years I have worked in healthcare settings, most recently at CAMcare Health Corporation, helping people shape balanced, sustainable eating patterns that fit their lives. I write many of the entries and I review submissions personally to ensure accuracy and clarity. When I am not writing I practice mindful eating, dance to clear my head, and explore different scotch expressions as a way to understand flavor and ritual.

This site reflects that experience. You will find practical guidance grounded in clinical work and nutritional science, delivered without judgment.

Our values

We use three guiding principles when preparing content.

Clarity
We present numbers and concepts in plain language. Readers should be able to read a page and know what a serving contains and what that means for daily life.

Honesty
Nutrition research changes and numbers get updated. We mark what is known, what is likely, and what remains uncertain. If a claim needs clinical interpretation we point you to a qualified professional.

Respect
Food is personal and cultural. We avoid shaming language and acknowledge that the same food can mean different things to different people.

A note on health advice

The information on this site is educational. It does not replace personalized medical or nutrition advice. If you have a medical condition, a complex dietary need, or questions about medications and nutrient interactions, please consult your healthcare provider or a registered dietitian.

A human approach

Facts matter, but so do feelings. When a reader tells us they feel overwhelmed, that they grew up with a certain food at family gatherings, or that they are nervous about changing their meals, we listen. We aim to answer the technical question and also to honor the lived experience behind it. A description of a food will include how it commonly tastes and feels on the plate so the information connects to everyday cooking and eating.

How to use the site

Search or type the food name into the address bar. You will find a dedicated page with standard sections so you can compare items quickly. If you need a plain number to plan a recipe or a longer explanation for a health question, both are available. If you want to suggest a food, correct an entry, or request clarification, contact us. We read every message and we respond.

Our promise

We will keep the facts clear, the tone calm, and the content honest. We will aim to be useful every time you ask a question about a food you are about to buy, prepare, or share. If we make an error we will correct it openly and note the change.
